Job for Postdoc.

ACE manipulation, macrophage phenotype and immune response

Postdoctoral positions available to study the role of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) in the immune response and in models of disease, including cancer. We have several on-going projects based on mice over expressing ACE in myelomonocytic cells. (Nature Immunol. Oct 2011;12(11):1078-1085, Am J Pathol 2007 Jun;170(6):2122-34).

One project is to study the role of macrophage ACE in immunity to tumors and serious infections. Mice genetically modified to over-express ACE in macrophages are very resistant to the growth of melanoma and other tumors. They also have a strongly increased immune response to bacterial (MRSA) and viral infections. A second project is to study how ACE affects peptide display and activity of dendritic cells and other antigen processing cells (J Biol Chem. 2008 Apr 11;283(15):9957-65).

Our observations are very novel and may lead to new insights/treatments for persistent infection and tumors. This project is an excellent vehicle to understand the role of macrophages in the immune response. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree and some background in either microbiology or immunology. A competitive salary commensurate with qualifications will be offered.
