Teaching News | Zhongshan Medical College holds the 2025 Teacher Teaching Competition
To improve teachers' teaching skills and inspire their enthusiasm for innovating teaching methods, Zhongshan School of Medicine held the 2025 Teachers' Teaching Competition in Building 2 of the Medical Complex on the North Campus on April 23. A total of 7 teachers signed up for the competition. The judging panel consisted of Professor Gao Guoquan and Associate Professor Ma Shanshan from Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University; Professor Wan Lihong from the School of Nursing; Professor Zhao Wei from the Guanghua School of Stomatology; and Associate Professor Bai Hongbo from Guangzhou Medical University. The competition was hosted by Vice Dean Wang Shuzhen, and teachers and students of the school actively attended to observe and learn. The 7 participating teachers took turns to give on-site teaching presentations, focusing on four dimensions: teaching content, teaching organization, language and teaching demeanor, and teaching characteristics. The judges listened carefully to each teacher's presentation and made comments with a rigorous attitude. Combining her experience in participating in competitions, Associate Professor Ma Shanshan commented on each participating teacher from the aspects of lesson plan design, teaching rhythm, teaching attitude, and teaching logic, and put forward suggestions for improvement. Professor Wan Lihong emphasized the importance of the overall structural design of classroom teaching, clearly pointing out that the introduction, main body, and conclusion of a class must be clear and complete, and a wonderful classroom introduction can stimulate students' interest and motivation in learning. Associate Professor Bai Hongbo commented on how basic knowledge can serve clinical practice, suggesting that teachers, after absorbing the content of teaching materials, should reconstruct classroom teaching content by combining scientific research experience, clinical experience, and social research, so that students can apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned to clinical practice. From the perspective of participating in competitions, Professor Zhao Wei put forward suggestions for improvement in terms of competition attire, details of slides, lesson plan design, teaching expression, and time allocation. Professor Gao Guoquan pointed out from a macro perspective that both in classroom teaching and teaching competitions, attention should be paid to three levels: goal orientation, content quality, and advanced nature. It is necessary to clarify the teaching objectives and key and difficult points of the classroom, highlight the depth of the course through differentiated teaching design, ensure the accuracy of interdisciplinary knowledge, pay attention to the confidence in teaching demeanor, teacher-student interaction, and the application of modern technology. He also emphasized the integration of scientific research thinking and clinical thinking into lesson plan design and teaching process, and the timely display of cutting-edge developments in the discipline, so as to comprehensively improve the quality and value of course teaching. Finally, Vice Dean Wang Shuzhen announced the results of the competition. Associate Professor Yang Yi from the Department of Pharmacology won the first prize; Yao Hui from the Department of Forensic Pathology and Lai Biqin from the Department of Histology and Embryology won the second prize; Xu Ting from the Department of Physiology, Zhang Dongjing from the Department of Parasitology, Zhang Xiaomin from the Department of Pathophysiology, and Zhang Zhao from the Department of Cell Biology won the third prize. In accordance with the university's competition rules, Associate Professor Yang Yi will be recommended by the school to participate in the 13th Teachers' Teaching Competition of Sun Yat-sen University.
