主讲人简介:
Dr. Duncan’s research group discovered the only known examples of membrane fusion proteins encoded by non-enveloped viruses. These reovirus Fusion-Associated Small Transmembrane (FAST) proteins define a new family of viral fusogens, the smallest known membrane fusion proteins and the only example of viral fusogens specifically adapted to mediate cell-cell membrane fusion and syncytium formation. These nonstructural viral proteins are virulence determinants of the fusogenic reoviruses, and they employ a novel combination of structural motifs to mediate membrane fusion. This presentation will focus on recent structural and functional investigations into the mechanism of action of the FAST proteins, and the involvement of cellular proteins and pathways in cell-cell fusion events.
